Location and Description of the port
Mersin port is tituated in the eastren part of the Mediterranean coast. The port is protected by two breakwaters 2 360 m. and 1500 m. long. The depth at the entrance is 14 m. and is 12 m. inside the breakwaters. It is the main port for the Eastern Mediterranean region's industry and agriculture. Mersin port is also amajor transit port of Iraq and Iran. The facilities at the port handle general cargo containers dry and liquid bulk and ro-ro.
Pilotage
Compulsory. Provided by the Port Administration.
Towage
Not necessary for the vessels up to 500 GRT.
One tugboats compulsory for the vessels of more than 500 GRT.
Two tugboats compulsory for the vessels of more than 4 000 GRT.
Three tugboats compulsory for the vessels of more than 15 000 GRT.
Provided by the Port Administration 6 tugs available: (up to 2 500 HP)
Fresh Water : Available from one 100 t. cap. lighter and also from the quays.
Bunker : Fuel can be obtained from suppliers.
